On September 15, 2008 I started a LinkedIn group devoted to affiliate management. In late December 2010, LinkedIn announced the launch of Open Groups, but I chose to keep the “Affiliate Program Management” group a closed, and a diligently-moderated one. Due to the nature of the group, there’s more benefit in the group’s closedness than in having “all discussions can be viewed by anyone on the web, found on any search engines” and so on.
Regardless of the closed nature of the group, on April 1, 2011 we reached 1,000 members [announcement here]. It took us 30.5 months to go from 1 to 1,000 members; but today I’m excited to announce that the route from 1,000 to 2,002 members was a little quicker — 23 months (and keep in mind that I ban
new (spamming) members frequently):
